Tell us more about your job as a Claims Manager.

I began working for APRIL International in London as a Claims Technician in 2013 and was promoted in 2015 to a Senior Claims Technician. I joined our Hong Kong team in March 2019 as the Claims Manager, a role which keeps me busy and often still thinking about when I'm in bed at night about improvements that have been made, and still to be made! It is a very interesting role and I love that I am involved with all aspects from claims, customer service and the assistance team. Every day is definitely a new day - there is never a feeling of any two days being the same.

What challenges have you faced in your career?

The toughest challenge I have faced in my career so far is definitely being in a Senior Position at one of the UK's largest insurers and having to leave due to relocation after my divorce. I felt like I had to start all over again. I had to find a vacancy quickly, however the position(s) I wanted, had experience in and am qualified for, were few and far between. I always knew my heart was in healthcare. The challenges I faced of finding my way back into the insurance industry especially medical were extremely difficult and took many years to achieve. So it now feels I've achieved my goal and makes me very happy to be the Claims Manger of the Hong Kong office.

On International Women’s Day, what is the most important message you want to send out to young women thinking about their careers?

Never be disheartened or doubt that you can achieve your goals. Believe that everything really does happen for a reason no matter how hard and sad those times sometimes may be. Know that you must keep going, keep pushing yourself and realise every day is a step closer.

Who inspires you and why?

Truly my Mum inspires me, she was a stay at home Indian housewife with three children and usual education. She then decided one day that she wanted a career and she never stopped until she had achieved just that. Now, she is a Regional Sales Manager for the UK’s leading Toy company, the only female sales person on the team and second highest seller for the company and had brought in client’s such as Marie Curie, Barnardo’s and Google. She is strong, passionate and dedicated. She has taught me and my brothers how important a career is and the value of good work ethics.
