In celebration of International Women's Day 2019, we have decided to introduce APRIL's female leaders in a series of short interviews. Today, discover Kylee's portrait, our Head of Marketing based in Hong Kong.

Tell us a little bit more about your role at APRIL.

My Name is Kylee, I have been in Asia for 6 ½ years and working for APRIL since October 2016. My role is Customer Journey Manager which involves looking after the customer experience, both on and offline. I also manage the digital marketing and communications for APRIL International Care.

What are you the most proud of during your career?

When I was at school I wanted to be a firefighter, but I was told I was too short (I’m five feet four and a half inches, and back then you had to be five feet 7). For a while, I was unsure which career path to take. I studied a BA in Marketing Graphic Design & Advertising and started to look at things differently. An advert can look pretty, for example, but will it achieve the same success rate as another design. I then studied people and  behaviour and wanted to give a customer exactly what they wanted and to make it easy for them to receive what they need. My role in digital marketing and marketing communications enables me to work both on and offline and I love the variation. Having worked in Europe, I wanted to better understand the Asian Markets and I am very happy and proud to have taken the leap to move to Hong Kong to explore for a few months, and then to begin work in this fascinating city and the APAC Region.

How would you describe your job environment?

I love working at APRIL International Care. I have met so many strong women that make this company what it is. There is so much diversity here, different cultures, nationalities, it’s a delight to see people coming together, working hard and delivering success here at APRIL.

Is there anyone (male or female) that inspires you in your career?

Actually, my mother inspires me every day. She has four children and my sister has cerebral palsy. My mother has cared and worked hard her whole life for children and adults with learning difficulties, whilst caring for the elderly clients by food shopping for them, cleaning their homes, taking them out on day trips. Seeing her work, passion and determination allows me to see that with hard work and dedication, you can achieve anything.  

On International Women’s Day, what is the most important message you want to send out to young women thinking about their careers?

Don’t be afraid to take risks. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Many suffer silently in today’s world, so reach out, help others, set your goal, and you will achieve the imaginable.
